Period Poverty Project - PLNU Partnership

Period Poverty Project - PLNU Partnership
Hope for a Better Future for Women and Girls
Project Information

This project addresses the critical issue of period poverty, focusing on empowering women and girls through improved menstrual health and hygiene (MHH). The Center for International Development (CID) collaborates closely with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) to research and understand the unique challenges faced by communities across the Global South. By conducting interviews and gathering data, this initiative not only highlights the struggles associated with managing menstruation but also facilitates the distribution of essential period products and educational resources. In this way, the project strives to create healthier living conditions for women and girls, fostering dignity and respect during a natural biological process that is often stigmatized.

In addition to its research efforts, this project actively supports local initiatives that combat period poverty, such as the launch of Nazarene for She. A notable endeavor is the installation of a machine that will produce compostable period products, with an ongoing partnership involving NCM Philippines. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that women and girls have access to sustainable and dignified menstruation practices, which ultimately promotes gender equity and enhances educational and economic opportunities for them. The impact of this project reaches far beyond its immediate beneficiaries, creating a ripple effect of change in the Southwest USA and beyond.
