2025 Benin Food Security Project

2025 Benin Food Security Project
Hope for a Better Future in Benin
Project Information

The 2025 Benin Food Security Project is a transformative initiative aimed at addressing the pressing issue of food insecurity in Benin, a vibrant country in West Africa grappling with poverty and malnutrition. This project seeks not only to renew but also to expand the successful food security efforts launched previously. By targeting a more coherent group, the project will extend its impact to additional districts, including the Benin-Okpara and Savanes regions in Togo. A key focus of this project is the Nazarene agropastoral farm, a new component that exemplifies the commitment to enhancing local agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable families.

In a region where approximately 9.6% of households face food insecurity and nearly 547,000 individuals are classified as experiencing a food crisis, the mission of this project is both timely and critical. Building on the encouraging results of earlier phases, Phase III shifts its emphasis toward sustainable development by training agricultural technicians, empowering local communities, and providing a structured approach to market agricultural products. This initiative will introduce organized sales strategies, supporting the establishment of local mini-cooperatives that can negotiate better prices and reduce the vulnerabilities associated with rushed sales. Additionally, the introduction of rotating savings and credit groups will foster economic resilience, especially among women and youth, offering them the resources needed for emergencies and essential agricultural investments. Through these efforts, the 2025 Benin Food Security Project not only aims to improve immediate food access but also strives to create a stable and equitable local system for production and consumption that benefits thousands within the community.
