Food Security and Resiliency in Burundi

Food Security and Resiliency in Burundi
Hope for a Better Future in Burundi
Project Information

The Integrated Food Security and Resilience Project will support 2,250 households in Nyanza, Burundi, between 2026 and 2030. Working alongside local churches and community partners, the project will help families strengthen food security, build resilience, and create more sustainable livelihoods. Participants will learn agricultural practices suited to their local context, develop financial management and business skills, and build stronger connections to markets and other resources.

Through farmer associations, participants will learn from one another and practice new techniques using community demonstration plots. Training will include conservation agriculture, livestock rearing, and other approaches designed to improve harvests while caring for the land. Savings and loan groups will also help families manage resources, invest in small businesses, and develop additional sources of income. By strengthening local partnerships and building on the knowledge already present within communities, the project will help families respond to changing weather patterns and economic challenges. Over time, participating households will be better equipped to improve nutrition, diversify their incomes, and work toward a more secure future for their families and communities.
